Interview from FOC 2011 chair

Hi Everyone!!

After our last post by our current CAC FOC'12 Chairperson, this time, we managed to interview NTU CAC FOC 2011's Chairperson!!

Check out our interview below, as we catch up on old times, and take a look at some of his views on CAC FOC 2012 =)

_________________________________________________________________________________

CAC FOC'11 Chairperson: Ng Hong Yi

Why did you choose to join CAC FOC when you were a freshie?

I considered UOC and Sports Camp among others and ultimately joined CAC FOC because I like the diversity and also that my senior extended the warm invitation. Choosing between the unknown and some familiar faces, it was a natural choice.

What was your biggest takeaway from the camp? Any things that were memorable?

My biggest takeaway was my OG. The entire OG. We still keep in touch and my buddy was from that very OG! What we did together in the camp made the moment but the people made the memory.

Did you make any friends from the camp?

Making friends is never hard for me, especially in an environment where you share common ground. CAC is one such place! People re-join CAC through the various committees and the network just expands itself! Friends are easily made as long as you don't be shy! Taking on the open mindset and a positive attitude is the challenge!

Did you join any other CAC related activities/clubs after that?

I was with CAC since my freshmen year (2009/10) and I was back with the Orientation Committee that year as a business manager. Things went pretty well and I liked it there so I found myself sitting on the executive committee the following year leading the Orientation Committee myself. Things got challenging but I stayed true to CAC FOC all my university life.

What are the motivations that prompted you to join back CAC FOC as a senior this year? And what are you expecting for this upcoming camp?

Joining back CAC FOC as a senior in one way or another was a natural progression. It's just like how you graduated from school and became an alumni. (And btw, CAC has its own alumni set up 2 years ago). I can only expect better for this camp, more friendships forged and more moments and memories etched in the many who came to contribute, as well as those who will later.

So.. Are you excited about the upcoming camp?

I am very excited to see greater heights of those that has came after me. All the best to CAC FOC and wish the camp a reminiscent success.

Clarification in FAQ

Thank you freshies who are interested in our FOC camp!! We welcome you to seek clarification with us through email, our blog and fb page.

We have updated our FAQ.

DO I need to know how to play instruments to join the camp?

It is not necessary at all to be artsy/know a lot of instruments etc etc, as long as you have the passion to: meet new friends through interesting games that we have planned out for you and to have a great start to your university life.

Do sign up and send us your application ASAP!

Slots are limited but it is definitely not on a first-come-first-serve basis... Everyone has a equal chance to join! However, the earlier you send us your application form means that we have more time to settle the administrative matters so do be considerate to us as well! :)

Thanks!! And, hope to see you at camp!!

FOC 2012 Chairperson message to freshies

Welcome Freshies!

I believe all of you were attracted to our interesting brochure and that is why you are here reading this :)

Now you know why we are called the Inceptors; because we know that you are all in a dream now. We are looking for Dreamers who are attentive enough to realize that they have been living in the dream we created. However, there is only a limited number of Dreamers we can take and we do want all of you to fight and break out of the layers of dream we have set out for you. To break free or to continue living in this dream, it's your choice and no one can choose it for you.

SO what are you waiting for? Get your ticket in the last escape vehicle and leave no regrets, before it is too late...

Vincent Wong,
FOC 2012 Chairperson

FAQ

1. What time exactly do we have to turn up for the camp?

The camp will begin at 8 am on 23 July (Monday). Meals will be provided throughout the camp, except for breakfast on 23 July. Our orientation group leaders (GLs) will inform you on the exact meeting and dismissal time and venue when your registration has been accepted.

2. What are some of the activities I will get to enjoy if I join the camp?

We have various activities that will lead you around the NTU campus to familiarize you with the school before the start of your exciting university life. We have also planned activities at the beach, and a race that brings you through an adventure around Singapore. During the camp, you will get to know many new friends and helpful seniors whom you can rely on for help in NTU.

3. How can I register for the camp?

Please fill in the registration form attached to the Freshmen Orientation Package (FOP) or obtain a soft copy of the registration here and send it back to us. Check out the steps to complete registration in the FOP, on this website, or on our Facebook page.

4. When will I be notified with regards to the status of my registration?

When we confirm your registration, we will give you a call.

5. What if I need to matriculate but do not wish to miss out any fun installed for me during the camp?

Laptops with Internet access would be provided during the camp itself. We would arrange for all freshmen to matriculate systematically with the help of their Group Leaders. It is advised to bring along your own matriculation password to assess your own account for matriculation.

6. What are the items we need to bring?

A list will be emailed to you by your group leader (GL) one week before the camp.

7. What is the camp fee for?

The camp fee will include food, transportation, camp T-shirt and accommodation over the entire duration of the camp.

8. How do we pay our camp fees?

Camp fees have to be paid during the registration process. You can either make the payment by cheque, ATM transfer or Internet Banking. Please DO NOT send cash by mail because the mail may be lost during delivery and the money will not reach us. Applicants who do not pay before the camp commences will have their placement revoked.

9. Can I get a refund if something crops up at the last minute, e.g. fell sick?

No. Once the registration is confirmed, food orders, accommodation arrangements, etc. will be made and thus a refund is not possible.

10. Will I get a place immediately once I register?

No. A balloting will be conducted when the total number of applicants exceeds the vacancies. Ideally, we hope to include all applicants in the camp!

11. Where will I be staying during the camp?

Accommodation will be in external facilities. Please bring along your sleeping bag for your own comfort.

12. Are we required to stay over for the entire duration of the camp?

We would very much like you to enjoy the entire camp by being with us. However, in cases of emergencies, please make sure that you report to your group leader (GL) first to make the necessary arrangements. Of course, do hurry back to join in the fun again!

13. Are all activities compulsory?

Of course not! If you feel very uncomfortable with any of the games, please feel free to observe rather than participate. However, we strongly encourage you to participate fully because you do not have many chances to attempt these games!

14. How are the sizes of the T-shirts like?

Sizes come in unisex sizes. For guys, we suggest either M or L. For girls, we suggest S or M. If you are in doubt, we suggest that you take the larger size!

15. I am a senior/graduate from NTU. Can I join the camp as a freshman?

We cannot accept seniors or graduates into our camp as freshmen. This is because we have limited vacancies, and the main purpose of this camp is to ease freshmen of NTU into campus life. Through the irreplaceable shared experience of the camp, we hope to bond all freshmen camp participants together.

16. I am a freshman going to NUS/SMU/etc. Many of my friends are joining your camp. Can I join the camp too?

The main objective of orientation camps is to widen freshmen's social circles and to familiarize them with the new school compound that they will be spending a good number of years in. As such, we advise that you join your university's camp to know more about the school you will be attending.

17. What will happen to the cheque if my application is rejected?

The cheque will be striked off and disposed of properly. We will only bank in the cheque after we have accepted your application for the camp.

18. If I have a medical examination scheduled on one of the days in camp, what can I do?

Please reschedule your medical examination if it falls on one of the days in camp. You can make a trip to the Medical Centre right away and complete the medical examination on the spot.
For other enquires with regards to medical examination, you can call the Medical Centre at 67936828 or 67936974. The Medical Centre is located at South Spine (S3-B2-15), beside the Lee Kong Chian Lecture Theatre. Alternatively, if you are only able to attend the medical examination on one of the days during our camp, please arrange to do it only on 23rd July and come back for more fun activities that await you.

FOC secret race... planning and scouting

FOC Main committee members took initiatives to go around Singapore, scouting for possible routes for a race. A secret race for... Freshies of course! Throughout the journey, we saw many interesting animals, foods, scenery and people. This time it is going to be different from what other camps are having... American's version of Amazing race? Hell no! ... Taiwan's version of Food hunting game? NO....! Korean's version of Running Man? NOOOOO...
It is BIGGER and much BETTER than that! Stay tuned!~

A trip down Chinatown

It's been 2 weeks since exams ended and the whole committee had been kept busy preparing for the upcoming Senior camp and actual camp. Thus, we decided to go down to the (famous) 10 dollar club in Chinatown to unwind for a day!

And we discovered that our boss (Vincent) actually 'own' a tailor shop in Chinatown
o.O

Of course the fun didn't just end here. Being avid foodies, we then had dim sum and 田鸡 (frog legs) for dinner! But, what's a meal without desserts? We then went to another renowned dessert shop along Temple Street -- 味香园

Durian (left) and Mango (right) snow ice.

And this marks the end of our awesome day in Chinatown!

As the title suggests, the main purpose of this shoot is to take some really interesting images that we can feature on the cover of the FOP!

KOI sales

When we hear bubble tea with mega spam of pearls, we think KOI! But it's such a pity that there isn't an outlet anywhere near NTU (nearest is at JE) when the craving is so unbearable!
Fear not! OC to the rescue! (LOL, just kidding)
This event is created for the welfare of the student and staff of NTU, especially if you have a sweet tooth or you just feel like drinking KOI bubbletea.
You are welcomed to feedback to OC to have more of such events to be organised in the future. :D

Joint Dance Concert committee is a special project group with the aim of organizing a dance concert consisting of the all the dance members clubs. This is a platform for the member clubs to showcase their talent and the effort they had put in for the past few months. OC members are also there to give our support.
